Rainy Day Solitaire Tips.....Move partial stacks from one column to another to free up cards. Sometimes you have to move partial stacks back & forth many times to win, especially on Hard. Try to move cards from columns that have the fewest buried cards so you'll free up columns. Be aware that any card can be placed into a blank column. Use blank columns as temporarily holding spots to shift cards between stacks and to "unmix" suits, especially when playing on Hard. Also try to move Kings into empty columns, especially playing on Easy or in later stages of Medium or Hard games. You can only use each Free Cell once so save them as long as possible and don't use them (or the Bonus Free column) until you have to. If you win without using one or both Free Cells or the Bonus Free column, you'll get a few bonus tokens for each. Canasta...Canastas with no wild cards are worth 500 points versus 300 for Canastas that include wilds, so one or two "natural" Canastas will build your score up fast. Jokers are worth 50 points each if still in your hand when your opponent goes out, so use them for melds before using your wild 2's. Aces and 2s are worth 20 points each so try not to get stuck with them either. These cards will also help you reach a high opening meld requirement if you think your opponent(s) may be getting ready to go out. Example: a simple 3-card meld of two aces and a joker is worth 90 points! When playing with a human partner against two Pogobots and the bots are far ahead (or if they get all the Red 3s), you & your partner can each stand and take the bots' seats. Be sure "Allow players to replace computer players" is checked in the table options, and be sure to stand & change seats one at a time or the table will close. Jungle Gin....Don't limit yourself to needing one specific card. For instance, don't hang on to the 7 & 9 of hearts as the odds of getting the 8 of hearts are small. If you have the 6 & 7 of hearts, either the 5 or 8 will complete a meld. Try to set up your hand for "either/or" options. For instance, if you have the 4 of clubs, 4 of hearts and 5 of hearts, you can complete a meld and have a discard if you get the 4 of spades, 4 of diamonds, 3 of hearts or 6 of hearts. For more points per game, consider selecting "Aces are low or high" in the table options. This will not only give you more options to play your aces, but they'll be worth 15 deadwood points each rather than 1 point.. just try not to get stuck with one or two deadwood aces if your opponent wins! |
